Beck and I have known each other since junior high through her cousin (who is a friend). We didn't become really good friends though until 1998 when I moved back up to Canada from Rexburg. Wow, that's ten years! We were roommates until 2000 when she got married.
Anyway, her family recently moved to Iowa so her husband could attend school there. Due to immigration issues, she's back in Alberta with her 3 girls, staying with family until things are finalized. (Hopefully not too long...) After visiting the in-laws in Olds, she spent 2 nights at my house.
The first night was not so good. For the children, that is. They arrived about 7:30 pm. Right before bedtime. The kids got all keyed up, exacerbated by exhaustion, and didn't get to bed until 10pm or so. I don't think anyone slept well. It was cute listening to them sing each other to sleep though.
Beck and I did, however, have a great time staying up late talking. Just like the good ol' days.
On Tuesday, we didn't spend much time together in the morning. Beck graciously agreed to babysit the kids while Shawn and I went to pick up a canvas at the mall. It was too big for our car (and we had gotten another large one as well) so she drove there with Shawn to get them in her minivan. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when she agreed to stay another night despite the negative experience the night before.
The girls loved Averi. Little girls and babies... How cute. Avi misses her adoring entourage already...
We arranged things so that they were camped out in Taylor's room instead of the loft. I think it helped. The kids went down better and Becky was much more refreshed this morning. Taylor did well in Averi's room, to our surprise.
So last evening, we made cinnamon buns. Translation: Becky was instructing me on how to make cinnamon buns but ended up doing the majority. How much more difficult things can be when you have children! There were 5 kids to take care of, aged 7, 4 (x2) and 2 years and 7 months. Shawn wasn't overly sad when the mass chaos left this morning.
The cinnamon buns were exquisite... We pigged out while watching a chick flick after the chill'ns had gone to bed. By the end, we, too, were exhausted. I forgot all about Hell's Kitchen...
Beck had to force herself to get out of our amazing shower this morning...
So after a quick photo shoot, Beck and the girls returned to her sister's house in Raymond. I had to bribe Taylor with ice cream to sit still and he still didn't cooperate... Averi was asleep.
